History of establishment of AUST


Dhaka Ahsania Mission is a non-profit Bangladeshi voluntary organization founded in 1958 by Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah. The Ahsania Mission established Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Dhaka in 1995 under the "Private Universities Act 1992". This university is one of the most prestigious private science universities in Bangladesh.


The campus of this university is located in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Ahsanullah University maintains cooperation and professional relations with the International Association of Universities, the University Grants Commission, and many other national and international educational institutions.


Vision: 


Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology was established with the mission to be a leading center of excellence in science, engineering, technology, and business by creating and transferring knowledge with human values to the young generations in such a way that they, in turn, could enhance the quality of life in Bangladesh and beyond.

Campus Location


The university is located in the heart of Dhaka city at Tejgaon Industrial Area. It has a permanent campus that has been built on approx. 05 bighas (1.676 acres) of land.


There is a 10-storied building including 2 level basement on the campus. This building has a total floor area of more than 4 lac sq. ft. In Bangladesh this is the 1st permanent campus built by any private university.


Just to ensure continuous power and water supply this university has 02 generators. The campus also provides facilities for co-curricular activities like common rooms (male & female), indoor game rooms, etc. as well as space for car parking and heavy machinery labs in the basements.


Logo of AUST: 


The logo of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology has three colors. They are green, black and orange. These three colors represent three different meanings. Green is for youth, orange is for maturity and black represents the significance of being hardworking.


The logo has three integrated areas. There is a central area, which represents the opening of the door of the university for the first time along with the date. The two lateral sides and the lower sides of the central area accommodate the full name of the university. The top part boldly abbreviates the title of the university with a sloping hill-like design suggesting the hard work and determination needed to receive a high level of education and knowledge.

Ranking of AUST: 


Based on research by Webometrics done in 2008 Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology ranked 1st among private universities in Bangladesh. This university secured the 3rd position among all universities, and 77th in the Indian subcontinent in their university ranking. This ranking is based on scientific research, international competition results, and publication of research papers.

AUST grading system


The performance of a student in a theoretical course of study is evaluated based on the following criteria:
•    Continuous assessment (assessment of class attendance, class performance, quizzes and/or assignments, etc.).
•    Semester Final Examination.
•    Clearance Examination (for clearance of the courses in which the students failed in the Regular Examination, if any)
•    Carry Over Examination (for clearance of backlog of the course(s) of previous semester(s), if any).
•    Improvement Examination (for improvement of the grade(s) obtained in the Regular Examinations, if any)
The distribution of marks in the continuous assessment and the Semester Final/Clearance/Carry Over/Improvement Examination will be as follows:
•    Class participation (i.e. class attendance, class performance, etc.) = 10%
•    Quizzes and/or assignments = 20%
•    Semester Final/Clearance/Carry Over/Improvement Examination = 70%
The letter grades and the corresponding grade points will be awarded for the theoretical courses in the Regular Examination and the practical/sessional courses by the provision given below:

Apart from the letter grades listed above, the students were awarded some other letter grades for their different statuses in a course. The letter grade "W" is for the withheld result of a student in a course.


Subject to the recommendation of the concerned Head of the Department and the approval of the Vice Chancellor of the University, a student is awarded the letter grade "E" for exemption or waiver of a course.

AUST admission: 


The requirements for admission to Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology are given below.


Faculty of Engineering and Architecture 

For SSC-HSC Candidates


•    HSC (Science) with Math, Physics, Chemistry
•    GPA in HSC: Minimum 3.5 (with additional subject)
•    Minimum total of SSC and HSC GPAs: 8.0 including additional subject.

For O & A – Level Candidates


•    O-level or equivalent (with at least five subjects including Math, Physics, Chemistry & English)
•    A-level or equivalent in Math, Physics & Chemistry with a minimum equivalent GPA of 3.5
•    Minimum equivalent total of O and A-level GPAs: 8.0
•    Grade equivalence: A*/A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 & E=1


Note: As per the Private University Act 2010, 3% of the total seats are reserved for sons/daughters of Freedom Fighters (FF), while another 3% for poor and meritorious candidates of Remote and Undeveloped Areas (RA).

Transportation and laboratory fees (if taken) are not included in this fee structure. If any students take the facility of transportation and laboratory then the fees will add to this. The university authority can change the fees whenever they want.
40% -100% waivers is available based on the result of S.S.C and H.S.C.

Residential Halls 


AUST does not have any residential facility in its command for the students. However, the foreign students will be assisted in getting accommodation at a reasonable cost in the proximity of the AUST campus.
Library


AUST has a library named Kazi Fazlur Rahman Library. The library provided sufficient carrels for individual study. It has such a huge space that 200 readers can read at the same time. The library has also turned to an Open Shelve System (OSS) which means readers now can browse books and journals directly from the shelves and can able to see other relevant materials at a time. Library workers are also there to help the readers.


The library provides the facilities for the Faculties and Researchers to study in a separate corner. Establishing an Internet browsing corner for research purposes is under process.


AUST KFR Library is open for all from Sunday to Thursday. It is open from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Several memorandums of understanding have been signed between Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology and the renowned universities of the world so that the students of this university may have the opportunity to graduate and/or undergraduate study with appropriate credit transfer.
