The Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) is an autonomous government body responsible for managing the commercial exploitation of forests in Bangladesh. They produce timber and wood products, and manage plantations. BFIDC was originally established in 1959 as the East Pakistan Forest Industries Development Corporation. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1972, it was renamed to its current name.
The corporation's mission is to promote the sustainable development of the rubber and wood industries in Bangladesh through research and development, use of innovative technology, skill development and service delivery. Their vision is to be a sustainable and profitable corporate institution in the field of Rubber and Wood industries.
Here are some of BFIDC's key activities:
Extracts timber, rubber wood and other forest products from forest land and BFIDC's rubber gardens
Establishes industries and factories for commercial use of forest products and rubber wood
Conducts research and development on new and improved forest products and processes
Provides training and extension services to rubber growers and wood-based industries
Manages and conserves forest resources
