There are nearly 39 million blinds in the world out of which 80% blind are due to cataract. Three quarters of the world’s blindness is avoidable. The number of blind people in Bangladesh is 0.75 million, but there are only about 1,000 ophthalmologists who provide eye care service to the patients. So to overcome this situation we need efficient and knowledgeable ophthalmic assistants who can give immeasurable support to the ophthalmologists in various areas of eye care. An ophthalmic assistant is an invaluable asset to the ophthalmic team in preserving and improving the vision. This course helps to create job opportunities and a high level of competence thereby increasing the work efficiency and productivity of the existing ophthalmologists in Bangladesh.
